Year of the Horse Gaba Oolong Chocolate Bar 2026

To celebrate the new year, Bang Tea & Formosa Chocolates developed this limited edition "tea chocolate bar" using on of her most popular teas, GABA oolong, sourced from Taiwan.  

About the tea: The Spring 2025 GABA oolong "delivers a full-bodied, complex flavors reminiscent of slowly dried Japanese persimmons (hoshigaki) and fresh brown bread." It has been certified as meeting the minimum threshold of GABA content of 150mg/100g leaves. The GABA content for the 2025 harvest has achieved a concentration of 193mg/100g leaves. The leaves have undergone an extended 3-day anaerobic fermentation process and are finished with a 4-hour roast.

About the bar: after tasting several oolongs from BANGtea's wonderful collection, I felt the GABA tea was unlike any I had ever tasted. I tried several formulations over the fall, and we decided on this one. It is 11% tea leaves by weight, blended with cocoa butter, dark chocolate, and sugar. It is packaged in a limited-edition red envelope to welcome the New Year.
