4 cozy sweater knitting patterns for variegated yarns
In part two of our series on variegated knitting patterns, we are highlighting a few different sweater knitting patterns that look beautiful and fit cozily using a variegated, colorful yarn!
Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out how variegated yarn knits up in the skein vs. an actual finished piece, so we've done a bit of the legwork and researched some options for you to consider.
These cozy sweater knitting patterns can be made by knitters across all levels and we've curated them from some of our favorite knitting pattern designers (including our in-house designs). We've included options in varying weights depending on how ~ cozy ~ you may need to be as we head into winter (at least for those in the Northern Hemisphere)!
If you haven't read the first part in the blog featuring accessory knitting patterns (including socks and mittens!), you can check it out here.
Effervescent Pullover (Adult and Child)
The most fashionable pullover made inspired by delightful tea leaves and yarnover ‘boba’ pearls in the lace yoke, a boxy cropped body, ¾ length sleeves, all topped with a frothy, light-as-air mohair creamy ruffle, with beautiful yarn from the Wandering Flock. Find the Adult version here and the "Mini" version for kids here!

Yarn Recommendation: While we don't have the original yarn base in shop, may we recommend another superwash fingering yarn, La Bien Aimee's BFL Tough Sock base, in this variegated pink (and light green/yellow) colorway, Ponyo & Souske.
Flax Worsted
If you have ever knit tincanknits and their famous Flax sweater, did you know they also have the Flax Sweater in Worsted weight? This basic, but modern pullover knit in the round is great for any beginners looking for a introduction to sweater knitting. Serena (@astitchofgreen) has kindly shared her variegated version knit in the baby size with us for a real-life example of how the pattern knits up in a multi-colored yarn.
Skill level: Beginner
Yarn Recommendation: Hold two strands of La Bien Aimee's BFL Tough Sock base, a sturdy and bouncy superwash yarn that's a little hardier than merino. Dusk, Heliodore, and Life Aquatic are all different colorways that would knit up well!
Salty Air Sweater
The Salty Air Sweater is a fingering weight sweater designed by Samantha Guerin with ten sizes (81.5 to 173 centimeters) and two views! An elegant top-down sweater with a lace yoke for the knitters who want more of a challenge, we've found a wonderful example of how the sweater is knit up in a variegated yarn. Elizabeth R (Ravelry), pictured above, used the Wandering Flock Merino DK in Jellybean for a soft and romantic look.

Yarn Recommendation: We've stocked Big Little Yarn Co's Trusty Sock base in a variety of tempting colorways. We personally love Umeboshi and Furikake!
